Legazpi City

Legazpi City is the capital of the province of Albay in the Philippines. Legazpi is the administrative center and largest city of the Bicol Region, in terms of population. It is one of the centers of tourism, education, health services, commerce and transportation in the Bicol Region. Legazpi City was recognized as the most business-friendly city in Southern Luzon in 2007 by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In 2014, the city was ranked second among the top three livable cities in the Philippines in the Livable Cities Design Challenge organized by the National Competitiveness Council (NCC) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. In 2016, Legazpi was named overall third most competitive component city in the Philippines by the National Competitiveness Council.

Mayon Volcano is one of the Philippines’ most popular icons and tourist destinations, is partly within the city’s borders.


Legazpi City is known as a place of fun and adventure due to numerous activities in wild places. In 2016, an area of 250,000 hectares (620,000 acres) was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The Albay Biosphere Reserve is home to 182 terrestrial plant species, of which 46 are endemic to the Philippines. Its marine waters and coastal area also provide habitat to five of the world’s seven marine turtle species, as well as mangrove, seagrass and seaweed ecosystems.
